Obituary

Herbert “Dale” Carnifax, 80 of Oak Hill, West Virginia left this life to be with his Savior and Lord on November 7, 2019. Dale was born on February 26, 1939 in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia to William “Hub” Carnifax and Sarah “Veda” (Crist) Carnifax. He was the loving and dedicated husband of the late Shirley Ann Lavinder Carnifax to whom he had been married for 49 years. He was the father of Steven (Tanja) Davis of Huntington, West Virginia and Mitzi (John) Hanks of Jamestown, Ohio. Dale was the grandfather to Alyssa Davis of Brunswick, Georgia, Ian and Kayleigh Hanks of Jamestown, Ohio, Mathew (Ashley) Davis of Pineville, West Virginia, Amanda Davis of Pineville, West Virginia and Larissa Davis of Anderson, South Carolina. He was great-grandfather to Eli Stanley of Newnan, Georgia. He was the brother of Bobby (Susie) Carnifax of Barberton, Ohio; Anna Clay (Willie Ruerup) of Killbuck, Ohio and Jean (Guy) Kincaid of Ramsey, WV. He was uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and great-uncle to many great nieces and nephews. Dale was proceeded in death by his wife, his parents, six siblings and two premature grandchildren.
Dale was a member of the graduating class of 1956 from Ansted High School in Ansted, WV. He served in the Army’s 97th Signal Battalion and held the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6 when he left the army in 1965. He was retired from Pittston Coal Company, Meadow River Mine and was an active member of the United Mine Workers Union.
Dale was a member of Mountain View Church of God where he and his late wife attended faithfully for more than 34 years. Dale served as an usher for the church. He found great joy in being with his church family and friends. He loved his time with his family and attending sporting events. He was known for his acts of kindness and service to those who called him friend. Rare was the occasion that would find him travelling and not meet up with someone he knew or someone who knew someone with which he was acquainted. He was a true friend to many.
Dale was an avid reader and loved reading his Bible and listening to sermons as well as Gospel music. He was greatly interested in history and was well researched on his family’s history as well as the geography of the region.
Visitation with the family will be held at Mountain View Church of God, Hilltop West Virginia on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10:00 – 12:00 with a memorial service immediately following with Pastors Rudell Bloomfield and Bill Harmon officiating.
Dale and Shirley both loved children and Mountain View Christian School was very dear to them. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Mountain View Christian School at P. O. Box 1246 Oak Hill, WV 25901-1246.

Every Sunday I looked forward to going into the sanctuary and getting a hug from both Dale and Shirley. If I got busy with the Kidz, Dale would come over and visit me in the kitchen and I'd get my Sunday hug :) Dale was always quick to tell everyone we met that he and my dad shared the same name. I find it no coincidence that he's being put to rest on what would have been my dad's birthday.
Dale your smile and hugs will be greatly missed. But I know one day I'll see you again! Give my dad a hug would you!?
